GMG ColorProof and FOGRA 39
23 January 2008
FOGRA 39L is as close to the ISO standard as makes no difference, according to The Print Business magazine. FOGRA 39L uses a density-based approach and has earned widespread acceptance among the industry's customer base.
FOGRA's influence has grown with the expansion of inkjet proofing where FOGRA control bars added to an Epson / GMG proof can show that the proof has been produced in accordance with agreed conditions. These conditions are set out in a series of 40 characterisation data sets for different printing conditions and papers. This characterisation illustrates the relationship between CMYK and the corresponding CIELab values.
GMG has received certification for the new FOGRA 39L standard (ISO Coated V2) for the GMG ColorProof proofing system in conjunction with GMG Proofpaper semimatte 250 proofing paper
The certification also includes the Epson x800 series and Epson Stylus 4000, 7600 and 9600 printers. The FOGRA 39L standard is the successor to the FOGRA 27L standard, which characterises the printing conditions for the offset standard. Extensive experience from day-to-day offset printing practice was taken in to account in the new, optimised 39L standard.
Matching FOGRA 39L on press is perceived to be much simpler to match on press than FOGRA 27 which some printers which had become the standard colour bar for commercial litho printing on coated papers.
